The Washington Commanders fell off the face of the earth last season, slipping into a team that won just five games. It didn’t help that they suddenly ranked 22nd in scoring after finishing fifth in 2024. Of course, getting just seven starts out of Jayden Daniels didn’t help matters either.
But the Commanders have since made wholesale changes, including swapping offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury for David Blough. They’ve also reshaped the offensive line and replaced Deebo Samuel with Stefon Diggs. Yet, the offense apparently still isn’t fixed.

Washington Commanders’ Offense ‘Inoperable’ in Scrimmage

It should be noted that the Commanders are without franchise left tackle Laremy Tunsil (torn triceps) and starting center Nick Allegretti (calf injury). There’s no word on how long Allegretti will be out but Tunsil is expected to miss months of time.
As a result, the Commanders have signed former Pro Bowl offensive tackle D.J. Humphries, but he hasn’t been able to practice with the team quite yet because he was just added on Tuesday.
The Commanders also didn’t have starting right guard Sam Cosmi (illness) when they scrimmaged against the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday. Missing three of their offensive line’s starters, Washington’s scoring attack was apparently “inoperable.”
In fact, according to The Athletic‘s Commanders insider Nicki Jhabvala, Washington’s offense was the “worst she’s ever seen in years.”
“This is the worst I’ve ever seen the Commanders’ offense in years. Inoperable offensive line.”
While the Commanders do have some help arriving at left tackle with Humphries, Washington’s first game is just over two weeks away on Sept. 13. Will the Commanders be ready to face off against the Philadelphia Eagles‘ dominant defensive tackles with Vic Fangio making the calls?
Based on the early reactions from Washington’s scrimmage against Baltimore, Week 1 could get pretty ugly for the Commanders.
