Liverpool will play at Anfield in the third round of the League Cup, with Andoni Iraola's men set to discover their opponent following Everton's game against Preston North End.

The first part of the draw has decided which teams will be at home and which will have to travel. Liverpool came out in the former category, with the tie to be determined in full later.

The game will be played between Liverpool facing Fulham (home) and Bournemouth (away) in the Premier League. Andoni Iraola is likely to use it as a chance to rotate his roster and give some of those who need a break the opportunity to rest.

The third round fixtures in the Carabao Cup will take place across two weeks (weeks beginning 7 and 14 September

There is a round of Champions League fixtures in the week beginning September 7, and then a round of Europa League games in the week that follows (week beginning September 14).

Because UEFA competition fixtures cannot be rescheduled, and to enable the Carabao Cup to proceed within its agreed schedule without disrupting other tournaments, there are additional conditions as part of the draw.

The eight clubs participating in the Champions League and the Europa League cannot meet each other in round three.

That is so that they can definitely fulfill the fixture and not have commitments in either European competition to consider.

Before the main draw, there was a pre-draw to decide whether each of the eight Champions League and Europa League Clubs will be at home or away.

As mentioned, Liverpool is at Anfield. No draw conditions will be required for the fourth round draw because at that point, UEFA competitions do not get in the way.

Going far in the domestic cups should be a priority for Liverpool this season as Iraola looks to win his first major trophy as a manager.

"In an ideal world, I would have loved Iraola to have had a couple of European campaigns, won a trophy, and been in a cup final," Jamie Carragher said last month.

"He will make mistakes because he hasn't managed a European campaign. How does he rotate? Does he rotate on a Saturday after an away game on a Wednesday? Does he stay with the team?

"Does he come straight back after a game? These are things I remember as a player that players will complain about to the staff, and if you haven't really had that before, you are learning on the job about those little details."
