There is a chance that before the deadline, Chelsea could swap their Argentine World Cup winners. Enzo Fernandez might leave, and Emi Martinez may end up joining from Aston Villa.
As things stand, Chelsea are expected to have received a big offer from Man City on Wednesday for their no.8. It is believed the Blues could actually receive more than the £120m price tag initially requested.

Fernandez is one of a handful of sales Chelsea are expected to make this week. Liam Delap is set to join Forest for a £50m package, while Aston Villa are in advanced talks to land Nicolas Jackson this month.
Napoli have made a £13.75m bid for Marc Guiu, though a deal is said to include bonuses and a future resale clause. Now, Chelsea could use their incoming cash to sign Emi Martinez from Aston Villa.
The situation: Emi Martinez has been offered to Chelsea
The 33-year-old finds himself in a difficult position at Villa. Juventus were set to sign Martinez but a move fell through and Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario has joined the Old Lady instead, initially on a loan deal.
Villa, meanwhile, signed Zion Suzuki from Parma, leaving Martinez in limbo. But David Ornstein reports that Chelsea have been offered Martinez, with Xabi Alonso and the transfer team considering a move.

What Enzo Fernandez said about Emi Martinez back in 2024
The duo are close after winning the 2022 World Cup. Martinez won the Golden Glove that summer; Fernandez won the Young Player award. In 2024, Fernandez said Martinez is “cocky”, as per Sports Keeda.
“He’s quite cocky, forget about it. He always gets overconfident with Chelsea. I don’t know what he has against us. Haha. But well, hopefully, it’ll be a great match, and, obviously, we can win. It’ll be special.”
Robert Sanchez’s performance has led to new Xabi Alonso stance
At the start of the summer, many Chelsea fans were of the opinion that the club would target a new shot-stopper. Mike Penders was due to return from his loan, but Chelsea wanted a new starting goalkeeper.
The club even compiled a six-man shortlist including Jordan Pickford. But nothing came of it. It looked as if Alonso was to make Robert Sanchez his no.1. His display at Fulham has forced Alonso into a u-turn.
According to the Telegraph, Alonso is now prioritising the signing of a new no.1 goalkeeper after Sanchez was at fault for both of Fulham’s goals on Monday. It could well be that Martinez ends up at Chelsea.
