Chelsea
Youngster Leo Black had left Tottenham Hotspur a few weeks ago. He was playing for Tottenham’s U-21 team and never made into the senior team. Now, Black has agreed to join Chelsea, as per latest transfer news. He will be an academy signing and is expected to improve their academy strength.
Leo Black will directly join his former team’s rivals, Chelsea
As reported by Football Insider, talented youngster Leo Black has agreed a deal to sign for Chelsea for free. The English talent’s contract with Tottenham expired on 30th June and he became a free agent. He did not renew his contract with the North London club. However, Black has decided to switch sides and join their bitter rivals, Chelsea. He will now focus on his development at Stamford Bridge.
The 20-year-old has shown a high level of versatility on the football pitch. He is generally a midfielder but has also played as a right back, left back and a winger for Tottenham’s junior team. Black didn’t get the chance to represent the Lilywhites at the senior level. He was struggling a lot to get into the first team and his opportunities were nowhere to be seen. As a result, he decided to leave the North London club to move elsewhere in search of better exposure.
EFL Championship club Sheffield United were interested in signing him. Portuguese team Academico FC also showed their desire for the youngster. Both the sides enquired about his availability. But he is not joining either side. Black has agreed to join the Blues. He is very close to putting his signature on a two year contract with the Stamford Bridge side. Black believes this move will be fruitful for his development.

Why did Chelsea approach Leo Black?
Leo Black was a hot prospect at Tottenham for several years. He has a high ceiling of potential. In 2022, he received a scholarship offer from the club. However, it became difficult for him to make it into the first team. Several managers came and went but he was not named in a single matchday squad.
In spite of such a mild setback, the Blues have high expectations of his growth. Chelsea’s recruitment department is convinced that he can strengthen the club at the academy level. Black has represented England at U-19 rank. Besides that, he has played for Tottenham in UEFA Youth League. A two year contract at the start of his Chelsea career will give him the time to prove himself. If he develops within the academy, he will be awarded with a contract extension and promotion into the senior team.
Chelsea have some business to do at the academy level
Leo Black will immediately join the Chelsea U-21 team after signing a two year deal with the club. The Blues have paid attention towards the midfielder and have wrapped up a deal very soon. But the Premier League side have sent some youngsters away to get regular game time.
The Blues’ academy star Reggie Walsh has moved to Wigan Athletic on loan. He will spent the 2026-27 campaign at the League One club. Another academy player, Ollie Harrison has moved to AFC Wimbledon on a season-long loan. League One will provide a platform where they will develop and get minutes regularly.
