**[Everton](https://ReadEverton.com) eased into the third round of the Carabao Cup with a [4-0 victory over Preston North End](https://readeverton.com/preston-everton-thierno-barry-hat-trick-carabao-cup/) at Deepdale on Wednesday night.**
Barry scored once before the break and twice in the second half, before Brennan Johnson completed the scoring with his first Everton goal.
Here are our Everton player ratings from the win.
**Jordan Pickford – 6**
Had very little to do as Preston struggled to create clear chances. A comfortable night.
**Mattias Röhl – 6**
Used at right-back and made one mistake which offered Preston an opening in the first half. Settled after that and was rarely put under much pressure.
**James Tarkowski – 7**
Kept things simple at the back. Preston had a decent spell early in the second half but never seriously threatened to get back into the game.
**Michael Keane – 7**
Solid alongside Tarkowski and dealt with what came his way. Another clean sheet for Everton.
**Vitaliy Mykolenko – 7**
Played his part in the opening goal, bringing down Dewsbury-Hall’s pass and finding Barry in the middle. A steady performance at both ends of the pitch.
**James Garner – 7**
Played just over an hour and looked comfortable in midfield. Used the ball well before being withdrawn.
**Harrison Armstrong – 8**
A good return to Deepdale, where he spent time on loan last season. Busy throughout, showed for the ball and gave Everton plenty of energy in midfield.
**Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – 8**
One of Everton’s better performers. His pass sent Mykolenko clear for the first goal and his saved effort led to Barry adding the second. Involved in plenty of the visitors’ better football.
**Tyler Dibling – 7**
Almost marked his first start of the season with a goal, only for Lee Nicholls to push his effort against the woodwork. Some promising moments before making way for Johnson.
**Iliman Ndiaye –** 7
A typically lively performance from Ndiaye, who linked up well with those around him and was involved in some neat Everton moves. Didn’t have a decisive moment in front of goal, but still caused Preston problems with his movement and willingness to get on the ball.
**Thierno Barry – 9.5 – STAR MAN**
The obvious choice.
Opened the scoring from Mykolenko’s cut-back, reacted quickest after Nicholls saved from Dewsbury-Hall for his second and completed his hat-trick from Johnson’s pass.
Barry then set up Johnson for Everton’s fourth. Three goals, an assist and four goals already this season.
**Brennan Johnson – 8**
Made an immediate impact. Set up Barry for his hat-trick and then scored his first Everton goal moments later. A very good cameo.
**Carlos Alcaraz – 7**
Brought fresh energy when he came on and helped Everton keep control of the game with Preston already stretched.
**Nathan Patterson – 6**
Got useful minutes at right-back and had little trouble defensively as Everton saw the game out.
**Tyrique George – 6**
Given a run-out late on and showed some bright touches without having much time to influence the game.
**Adam Aznou – 6**
Another useful appearance from the bench. Slotted in comfortably during the closing stages as Everton protected the clean sheet.
