Well, that’s a little less than ideal. The Carabao Cup third round draw took place shortly after the conclusion of Spurs’ 5-1 win over Charlton. If you were hoping for an easy opponent, welp! You didn’t get that! Spurs were drawn away to Liverpool in the third round, which will take place between September 7 and 14.

The bad news is that Liverpool is a very good team. The good news is that, like us, they’re likely to rotate pretty heavily for this match, so maybe Spurs can snatch a win? Or not. And if not, well, it’s the League Cup, whatever.

Here’s the full draw of the third round.

Carabao Cup Third Round Draw

Manchester City v Norwich City

Sunderland v Hull City

Ipswich Town v Arsenal

Coventry City v Aston Villa

Bournemouth v Lincoln City

Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur

Chelsea or Luton Town v Leeds United

Millwall v Newcastle

Fleetwood Town v Sheffield United

Everton v Wolves

Leyton Orient v Bradford City

Reading v Brentford

Peterborough United v Barnsley

West Ham v Fulham or AFC Wimbledon

This is the round where the Premier League teams who are in Europe join in, so naturally there are some pretty exciting draws. Liverpool vs. Spurs is probably the biggest match of the draw, but Sunderland vs. Hull City is kinda fun if you like bad Premier League teams, and I’m kinda curious about Coventry vs. Aston Villa based on last weekend. And hey, maybe Ipswich can surprise Arsenal? A guy can dream.
