Norwich City have landed a glamour League Cup third round tie with a trip to holders Manchester City.

Philippe Clement's squad will test themselves against the Citizens next month in a fixture set for the week commencing September 14, subject to confirmation.

The third round ties will take place across two weeks to fit around the European football calendar (week beginning September 7 and 14), with fixtures in the Champions League (week beginning 7 September) and Europa League (week beginning 14 September) also scheduled during this period.

Under Pep Guardiola, Manchester City won the competition five times, most recently last season when Nico O'Reilly's brace secured a 2-1 Wembley win over Arsenal, before Enzo Maresca replaced the legendary manager in the summer.

The last meeting between the clubs was a 4-0 Premier League win at Carrow Road for Guardiola's star-studded squad in February 2022.

The Canaries memorably claimed the Citizens' scalp during Daniel Farke's tenure in a 3-2 home top flight win in September 2018.

Prior to that, Jonny Howson's slaloming run and goal sealed a 3-2 away win in the north-west on the final day of the 2013 Premier League campaign to secure a top half finish under Chris Hughton.

In the League Cup, Manchester City have won four of the six meetings between the pair.

Clement's squad booked their place in the third round with a 2-1 win at Championship rivals Cardiff City on Tuesday.

Mathias Kvistgaarden and Ante Crnac were on target in Wales, with Crnac marking his return from a 10-month cruciate knee ligament injury with the winner.

Norwich opened their season with a 4-1 home League Cup first round win over MK Dons.
