The NFL has seen plenty of drama surrounding stadium projects in recent years. Oftentimes, the process isn’t quite as straightforward as the Tennessee Titans’ or Buffalo Bills’ construction plans.
Teams like the Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns have battled over where to build their next stadiums. The Bears could eventually move states, while the Browns have planned to build their new home outside Cleveland. Both situations have frustrated local fans.
At least there’s one governor who has made it clear: his team is staying home.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro told reporters that the Eagles’ next stadium will be within the city of Philadelphia. The Eagles are expected to continue exploring stadium options around the region.

“Here’s what I can tell you for sure: It’s going to be in the city of Philadelphia and we’ll work with the Eagles once they determine what it is that they’re interested in doing. But I appreciate the thoughtful and deliberative approach that they’ve taken to this process,” Shapiro said.
“The Eagles organization is thinking about what they want for the future and we know that the future is going to be here in Philadelphia. They’re going to think about what they want as a home for the next 30, 40, 50 years and then we’ll have a conversation when they’re ready to have it.”

That should provide some temporary relief for Eagles fans who have watched other NFL franchises consider moving away from their longtime homes. While the location limits appears settled, the Eagles still have plenty to figure out regarding their next stadium for their best fit.
Eagles have options to consider

Lincoln Financial Field opened in 2003, meaning the Eagles still likely have plenty of time before they absolutely need a new home. However, the franchise will eventually have to decide whether to renovate its current stadium or pursue an entirely new facility.
The Eagles probably have already begun exploring what their next stadium could look like, including potential sites and financing options. Keeping the team within Philadelphia should also help preserve the connection between the franchise and its fan base.
For now, Eagles fans can take comfort in knowing their team isn’t going anywhere if Shapiro has anything to say about it.
