LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Work is underway at AT&T Stadium in Texas, transforming the home of the Dallas Cowboys into the site of “Spikes Under the Lights” volleyball.
The first-of-its-kind tournament is a four-team exhibition with a $1 million prize pool. Nebraska volleyball will share the NFL stadium stage with Florida, Penn State and SMU.
The court spans between the 30-yard lines, with most of the seating spread throughout the 100,000-plus-capacity stadium. The glass west end will be covered with a curtain during the match.
The Thursday night event begins at 7 p.m. with a matchup between Nebraska and Florida. Should the Huskers win, they’d advance to the winner-take-all championship against the winner of Penn State and SMU.
The tournament is designed to be fast-paced. Each match is best-of-three sets, with the first two sets being first to 21 points. The third set is first to 15.
“Spikes Under the Lights” will be broadcast on TNT with coverage set to begin at 7 p.m.
