The Minnesota Vikings are preparing for the start of the 2026 season, which will take place at U.S. Bank Stadium against the Green Bay Packers, in just 2.5 weeks.
Meanwhile, 4x Pro Bowl defensive lineman and longtime Viking, Everson Griffen, was supposed to be doing the same thing, after the 38-year-old announced a month ago that he was attempting a football comeback — four years removed from his last NFL game (2021).
Everson Griffen arrested again
Unfortunately, before he could drum up any interest, Griffen has hit another roadblock. And yet again, it isn’t football-related. On Wednesday morning at 3 a.m. CDT, Everson was found by State Patrol walking along I-394, near downtown Minneapolis.
When told to leave the road, Griffen refused to comply until the situation allegedly escalated to where officers tased the 275-pound former defensive end, before he was arrested and booked into the Hennepin County Jail. It’s the second time Everson has been arrested in the last two months and at least the third time in the past year.

Griffen also booked on harassments/violation of restraining order charges
According to jail records, however, Griffen was also taken in on charges of harassment and knowingly violating a restraining order [MN Statute: 609.748.6(B)], that court documents obtained by Minnesota Sports Fan reveal was issued by his wife, Tiffany M. Griffen (listed as “TMG” below).
Ultimately, Everson was released Wednesday, at 6:52 p.m. CDT, under a multitude of conditions that dictate he has no contact with the victim, avoid her residence, have no firearms, drive only with a valid driver’s license and that he remains law abiding. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 29.
Griffen was also offered a plea deal by the State of Minnesota that includes 90 days stayed for 1 year + no violations resembling the ones mentioned above, in exchange for him to plead guilty.
