The New Orleans Saints have major decisions to make soon. The time to cut rosters down to 53 players is rapidly approaching. Head coach Kellen Moore is certainly weighing everything as the deadline approaches. But he also recently pointed out an advantage for his team.
Moore met with reporters on Wednesday when he was asked about the upcoming deadline. The Saints sideline boss mentioned that a tweak in how the league structured the deadline this season offers an advantage for the players who will make the roster.
“The NFL, they changed their structure just a little bit. Roster cuts are on Sunday, so we really get a full week, which I think is going to be to the league's advantage. We'll get three practices in next week. Usually, you kinda drag those roster decisions and you only end up getting one, maybe two practices,” the Saints head coach said, via New Orleans Football Network.
Moore will be beginning his second season as head coach of New Orleans next month. The former NFL quarterback was hired after winning a Super Bowl as the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive coordinator. Unfortunately, his first season as a head coach did not go so well.
The Saints had a brutal start to the year, going 2-8. However, things did turn around for them at the end of the year. They finished 4-3 in the latter stages of the season to end with a 6-11 record.
The Saints are hoping for better fortunes in 2026. They begin their regular season on September 13 against Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions.
