Barcelona have done relatively well to bring in a lot of money via sales this summer, with the likes of Ferran Torres. Ansu Fati and Inaki Pena moving on permanently. In July 2023, Barcelona finalised the sale of Nico Gonzalez to FC Porto. The club netted around €8m from that deal, while they received another €13m when he moved to Manchester City in February 2025, a move that triggered the club’s 40% sell-on clause. Their total money received from the 24-year-old has now reached €23m, with O Jogo (via [Sport](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/barca-saca-redito-traspaso-nico-133692484)) reporting that €1.9m is owed to the Catalans as part of FIFA’s solidarity program of sharing 5% of a player’s training rights, following his move to Newcastle United this week.
Nico was deemed surplus to requirements by new Man City head coach Enzo Maresca, and that prompted Newcastle to move for him. A deal was agreed for €60m, of which approximately 3% will go to Barcelona as part of their training rights for the midfielder, who came through the ranks at La Masia.
Barcelona have already developed a good relationship with Newcastle following their negotiations for Anthony Gordon earlier in the summer, and this case will only have increased the Catalans’ good feelings towards the Premier League side. It may only be just under €2m, but it is funds that can be used to help the club work towards bringing their financial difficulties to a permanent end.
It’ll be interesting to see whether Barcelona are able to generate any more money from player sales before the summer transfer window closes next week, but even if they don’t, they have done well in this regard in 2026.
