Arsenal are reportedly only a few million pounds away from agreeing terms with Hamburg over a transfer for Fabio Vieira.

The Portuguese midfielder has spent the last two seasons on loan away from the Emirates, with Porto and then HSV Hamburg in Germany.

The Bundesliga side want to make his move to the club a permanent one, having returned to north London earlier this summer.

Sky Germany claims Hamburg's director of football Claus Costa flew from Hamburg to London on Tuesday to hold talks with Viera and meet Arsenal's sporting director, Andrea Berta.

While the report claims there were no direct negotiations, HSV have reiterated their desire to sign the 26-year-old midfielder. It's claimed there's only a few million difference between the two clubs over a permanent departure.

That being said, Vieira - who has only made 49 appearances for the Gunners since joining them from Porto in 2022 - has interest from other clubs who have made enquiries.

It's clear that Vieira has no long-term future at the Gunners and Berta would do well to cash in on the midfielder, who hasn't been able to nail down a starting spot in the Arsenal midfield.

The arrival of Bruno Guimaraes will only push the Portuguese midfielder further down the pecking order.

Arsenal are looking to bolster their forward line before the summer transfer window closes and are still being heavily linked with a move for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez.

The Gunners were linked with moves for Morgan Rogers, Bradley Barcola and Vinicius Junior, but have missed out on all three.

Alvarez has made it clear he wants to stay in La Liga and join Barcelona, but Atleti have doubled down on their previous stance, that they won't sell to Hansi Flick's side.

That leaves the door open for Arsenal to try and secure the blockbuster addition before the end of the window, though time is running out.
