Andoni Iraola refused to rule out Cody Gakpo‘s exit from Liverpool before the end of the transfer window, saying he “cannot guarantee anything.”
With Liverpool formalising a move for Bradley Barcola and still pursuing a second winger, Gakpo’s potential exit has come under focus.
Tottenham and Man City have identified the forward as a target before the end of the window, with reports from the Netherlands claiming that he has already agreed terms with the former.
Liverpool are understood to value the 27-year-old at around £70 million, and while Iraola was complimentary of Gakpo during Thursday’s press conference, he refused to rule out his exit.
What Andoni Iraola said about Cody Gakpo’s future
“I can say what I said in the past week, and even after the performance he had in the first game. I say the same again, he’s playing very well for us,” Iraola started when asked about any guarantees on Gakpo staying.
“He’s been very good since he came back from the World Cup after a holiday, very good attitude. And I hope we can keep at the level, because I think he’s been very influential in our games.
“When the market is open, we have a lot of players, almost 30 players, you cannot guarantee anything with anyone. You never know who is going to arrive.
“I would like to know how the market finishes and ‘we finish with this one, this one’, but I don’t know.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen with any of our players. I cannot guarantee anything.
“You think I can smell who we are going to sign and in what positions, but experience shows you that [you can’t make guarantees].
“If there’s an opportunity on the last day and you think, ‘OK, it improves us’, let’s take it.”
Iraola’s words certainly leave the door open to Gakpo’s exit – only a year after he signed a new five-year contract – should the Reds successfully land their pacey wing options.
Liverpool hold full leverage in any negotiations with Spurs or City as they are under no financial pressure to sell, though their valuation would offset the £120 million package for Barcola.
