Alex Scott has quickly become one of the biggest transfer stories of the summer. Chelsea are preparing an improved £85 million offer amid growing uncertainty over Enzo Fernandez, as per latest transfer news. The Blues, however, want cover in place either way.
Alex Scott remains top target as Fernandez future clouds Chelsea plans
As reported by TEAMtalk, Chelsea are ready to press for a deal. That could happen if Manchester City finally submit a firm bid for Fernandez. City have reportedly kept in touch with Fernandez’s camp. However, they have publicly rejected the current valuation. A compromise could still emerge, though, if add-ons close the gap. Xabi Alonso’s side, for their part, want cover lined up regardless of how the saga ends.
Bournemouth turned down an initial £64 million bid earlier in the window. That setback, though, has not dampened interest. Alex Scott, for his part, also turned down a new deal this month. Many see that as a clear opening for suitors. That rejection, insiders say, has only sharpened suitors’ interest further.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are already drawing up plans in case Fernandez departs Stamford Bridge. Monaco’s Lamine Camara and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton both feature on the list. Neither, though, carries quite the same reputation in English football yet. The Bournemouth midfielder is seen above them both. That is largely down to how comfortably he has settled into the top flight already.

Premier League 37 3 1 85 27
FA Cup 1 1 0 74 2
EFL Cup 1 0 0 90 3
Bournemouth valuation still a major hurdle
The Cherries’ finances, too, are stronger than usual this year. That follows a strong Premier League campaign, so there is little pressure to sell cheaply. This resilience explains why suitors have needed to raise their offers more than once. Chelsea, for instance, have already gone well beyond a club’s valuation before. Their pursuit of Morgan Rogers earlier in the window made that clear.
Football finances have shifted a lot this window. Several midfield deals elsewhere in Europe have already passed £100 million. Against that backdrop, an £85 million package looks far less steep than it might have. After all, the target is just 22, with a full Premier League season already behind him. That context matters when judging whether this fee looks reasonable.
Bournemouth, however, see their homegrown talent as central to squad plans. That is especially true after the club reached Europe for the first time in its 127-year history. As things stand, the south-coast side value him at close to £80 million. That is well above Chelsea’s opening offer.
Alex Scott future may hinge on Manchester City decision
For now, the Bournemouth number eight stays focused on pre-season duties. Speculation, though, keeps building around him regardless. His composure and passing range have made him a target across English football. Rival admirers, including Manchester United and Tottenham, have also shown interest at times this summer. None of that competition, though, appears to have unsettled Bournemouth just yet.
Everything may depend on what happens with Fernandez next. Should City press ahead with a payment close to Chelsea’s figure, things could move fast. Expect any deal for Alex Scott to follow almost immediately. Deadline day, now just over a week away, could still force a decision.
One thing seems certain here. Given his age and price tag, this saga looks unlikely to settle soon. Either way, Alex Scott’s next move promises to shape one of the bigger midfield rebuilds in England this year.
