De Zerbi pushing for Spurs to sign Liverpool star and complete trio of attacking additions…

Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi is seriously pushing the club’s board to finalise a deal for Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo, according to The Independent.

Since their disappointing 3-0 defeat to Brentford in their Premier League opener, Spurs have intensified their search for attacking reinforcements.

Having already completed high-profile moves for Manchester City duo Savio and Omar Marmoush, De Zerbi views Gakpo as the missing piece in his attacking overhaul.

Tottenham have already reached an agreement in principle on personal terms with Gakpo’s representatives. However, agreeing a fee with Liverpool has been the main stumbling block, as the Reds have refused to sell until they secure a replacement.

A major development has given Tottenham hope in their pursuit of Gakpo. Liverpool have agreed a deal in principle to sign Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola in a package worth up to €140 million.

With Barcola operating mainly on the left flank, Liverpool are now more open to offers for Gakpo, giving Spurs a clear opportunity to strike before the deadline.

Manchester City have also shown interest in the Dutch forward as they reshape their own attack, but De Zerbi’s direct involvement and personal approach have positioned Tottenham as favourites.

Should Spurs land Gakpo, their summer spending under De Zerbi would surpass €400m in guaranteed fees.

Spurs returned to winning ways with a 5-1 EFL Cup win over Charlton Athletic on Wednesday, with new signing Savio scoring his first goal for the club.

Tottenham will now look to get their league campaign on track when Newcastle United visit North London on Saturday.
