West Virginia Lottery launches NFL-inspired Powerball

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVVA) — The West Virginia Lottery, in partnership with Powerball and the National Football League, has announced a new multi-state lottery game centered around NFL team logos.

Ticket sales will begin on Tuesday, September 8, with the inaugural drawing scheduled for Sunday, September 13.

Instead of selecting numbers, players will pay $5 per play to choose eight team logos from the 32 NFL options. To win a prize, players must match at least four of the winning logos selected during the random weekly drawing, which will take place every Sunday at 10 p.m. Matching all eight logos wins the jackpot, which starts at $1 million and grows after each drawing without a grand prize winner.

Acting Lottery Director David Bradley expressed excitement about the launch, pointing to the state’s deep connection to football. “West Virginia has a storied and rich devotion to the game of football, and we are excited to add a lottery twist to that fandom,” Bradley said, noting that research shows the state has one of the most dedicated NFL fanbases per capita in the country.
