Liverpool’s 2026/27 Champions League league-phase opponents officially confirmed

Liverpool have discovered their eight opponents in the UEFA Champions League league phase following Thursday’s draw in Monaco.

The 36 competing clubs were split into four pots based on their UEFA coefficients, with each team drawn against two clubs from each pot – one at home and one away.

Liverpool were placed in Pot 1 and cannot face another Premier League side or more than two teams from the same country.

Andoni Iraola faces a tough task to improve on Arne Slot’s campaign last season, when Liverpool were eliminated by eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals.

The Reds had impressed during the league phase, winning six of their eight matches to finish third behind Arsenal and Bayern Munich.

Thursday’s draw in Monaco paired the Reds with the following sides in the opening phase of the competition: Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, FC Porto, Club Brugge, Villarreal, Fenerbahce, RC Lens and LASK.

The Reds will host Atletico Madrid, FC Porto, Villarreal and RC Lens at Anfield, while Andoni Iraola’s side will travel to face Inter Milan, Club Brugge, Fenerbahce and LASK.

The top eight teams in the 36-team league phase will qualify automatically for the last 16, while those finishing ninth to 24th will enter the knockout play-offs.

Iraola will be aiming to take Liverpool deeper into the Champions League after their last semi-final appearance in 2021/22.

The Reds face a challenging run, with matches against Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea in the Premier League before five of their league-phase games, three of which will be at Anfield.

This season’s Champions League final will be held at Atletico Madrid’s Estadio Metropolitano on Saturday, June 5, 2027, the same venue where Liverpool won their sixth Champions League title by beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the 2019 final.
