The whole situation concerning FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid has certainly been blown out of proportion. Both clubs wanted to sort out the future of Julian Alvarez, but Atletico Madrid in particular seems to not have taken well to Barça’s advances this summer.
As a direct consequence of those advances, the Madrid-based club went as far as to release an official statement to end the Catalan club’s pursuit of their Argentinian ace. However, it did not end there and even Atletico Madrid CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin decided to speak up further.
In a recent interview, Gil Marin decided to launch some controversial statements towards Barcelona and even claimed that the player could end up being sold this summer to other clubs. However, current Barça vice president Rafa Yuste has since decided to respond to the bold statements.
Speaking to Movistar, Yuste seemed quite vocal about his disapproval of Gil Marin’s words and just how unacceptable they are for Barcelona:
“Gil Marin’s words are a lack of education and respect. This crosses a red line and it outrages me.”
He was also confused by the words of the Atletico Madrid CEO, claiming that Barça had always been professional and that the club is always excited over the prospect of an elite player wanting to join the team:
“I don’t understand Miguel Angel Gil’s words at all. There’s no truth there. We respect all players. It excites us that a player wants to join our team.”
Lastly, when asked about the possibility of signing Julian Alvarez this summer, the Barça representative gave an understandably vague response but clarified the club’s position:
“The market is a few days from closing. What I have to do is defend Barça and its professionals.”
It now remains to be seen what the Catalan giants end up doing in these finals days of the transfer window, but they will need to be quick. After all, the longer they wait the more likely it is that various transfer operations could become way more costly than they need to be.
