The Green Bay Packers had to deal with Josh Jacobs' arrest earlier this year. And they have a backup plan if he faces a suspension. However, Jacobs is facing reduced charges after his May arrest, according to a post on X by Tom Pelissero.
“The Brown County District Attorney has formally charged Packers RB Josh Jacobs with two misdemeanors related to his May arrest. Originally booked on five charges, including felony strangulation, Jacobs now faces reduced charges of misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property. The NFL has been monitoring all developments in the matter, which remains under review.”
Jacobs is a 28-year-old, seven-year veteran. He came over to the Packers from the Raiders back in 2024. In his first season in Green Bay, he rushed for 1,329 yards with 15 touchdowns. Last year, he totaled 929 yards rushing with 13 scores.
Packers RB Josh Jacobs could still miss games
Jacobs has been available to practice and play since the arrest. But, of course, he could face discipline under the league’s Personal Conduct Policy. Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said earlier this week that the Packers have made plans if Jacobs faces NFL discipline, according to a post on X by Jason B. Hirschhorn.
Packers GM Brian Gutekunst on plans for if/when Josh Jacobs is suspended: ‘We've obviously been preparing for that in case that happens. But at the same time, I feel really good about the guys we have in that room.’ ”
Some suspension is expected, according to Adam Schefter via NBC Sports.
“ESPN’s Adam Schefter said in August that the league would likely suspend Jacobs, though the length of the suspension had yet to be determined,” Denny Carter wrote. “MarShawn Lloyd would likely function as Green Bay’s lead back if Jacobs — who’s dealing with a lingering groin issue — misses regular season games. The oft-injured Lloyd has stayed healthy this offseason and has reportedly run well in training camp and joint practices.”
Lloyd played the majority of snaps with the first-team offense in the Packers' recent preseason game against the Broncos.
