After fifteen years, Nigerian RB announces departure from Man Utd ahead of imminent Arsenal move

London-born Nigerian right-back Habeeb Ogunneye has taken to social media to announce his time at Manchester United has come to an end.

The defender has agreed a transfer to Premier League champions Arsenal, with only an official confirmation of the deal pending.

Ogunneye was absent from all of United's first-team pre-season friendlies and was also left out of the squad for their opening Premier League 2 fixture, further indicating that a move was in the works.

He leaves Old Trafford without making a senior appearance for the club, although he was named in 10 first-team matchday squads, including seven Premier League fixtures.

The defender featured extensively for United's youth sides, representing the club in Premier League 2, the EFL Trophy, UEFA Youth League, U18 Premier League, National League Cup, Premier League International Cup and FA Youth Cup.

Ogunneye took to Instagram on Thursday evening to reflect on his lengthy association with the Manchester United and bid an emotional farewell.

He said: "15 years. What a journey. Forever grateful for the memories, the people and everything this club has given me. Time for the next chapter."

In search of regular first-team football, Ogunneye joined Newport County on loan in July 2025, making 21 appearances for the League Two side before being recalled by Manchester United in January.
