Pittsburgh Steelers QB Will Howard is being evaluated for a potential injury by the team’s medical staff, according to TribLive’s Chris Adamski. Howard reported something during the second half of the Steelers’ 28-27 loss to the Buffalo Bills and is still being evaluated.

Howard was sacked three times and took numerous hits in the first half, but stayed in the game until being replaced by Drew Allar for the second half. The Steelers followed the same script at quarterback as in their second preseason contest against the New York Jets, so there was no immediate sign that Howard was injured.
He did appear to be moving slowly after a drive toward the end of the second quarter, but he came back out for one more drive before the end of the half. It’s unclear what the nature of Howard’s injury may be.
With roster cuts looming, the big question for the Steelers is whether the team will keep four quarterbacks. With the severity of Howard’s potential injury unknown, it’s too early to speculate if he could be a possible candidate to land on IR. If Howard lands on IR prior to the cutdown deadline, he would have to miss the entirety of the 2026 season. However, if he went on IR after the deadline, he would be eligible to return after missing four games.
Howard went 9-15 for 69 yards and two touchdowns with an interception in the preseason finale. It was a better performance than his two-interception outing against the New York Jets, and Howard was under constant duress throughout the first half. His interception came on a miscommunication with TE Lake McRee. He finished the preseason by going 26-39 for 229 yards and two touchdowns with three interceptions.
