Premier League winner Robert Huth thinks Florian Wirtz is destined for failure at Liverpool. The German midfielder has not adapted to the English top flight since signing from Bayer Leverkusen.
When Wirtz arrived at Anfield in June 2025, he did so with bucketloads of promise. The attacking midfielder had been a key component in Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen winning the Bundesliga without losing a single match in 2024, registering 18 goals and 19 assists in all competitions.
In 197 appearances for Leverkusen, Wirtz scored 57 goals and added 65 assists to that total, winning the Bundesliga Player of the Season award two seasons ago and being named German Male Footballer of the Year last year.
All of these achievements and accolades meant that when the Reds came calling, they were quoted £116m and duly paid up. The transfer was an initial £100m, rising to £116m in add-ons - a club record for all of 73 days before Alexander Isak was secured for £125m. But this momentous price tag has not been repaid.

In his debut season under Arne Slot, he mustered just seven goals and eight assists in 49 appearances. He was hooked after 63 minutes in the weekend's 2-2 draw against Newcastle United as he made his competitive bow for Andoni Iraola.
Wirtz has at times struggled with the Premier League's physicality, which has led ex-Leicester City and Chelsea defender Huth to claim his fellow German will never cut it in the top flight and could soon be sold.
Speaking on All Out Football's In The Mixer, Huth said: "I really struggle to see how it's going to turn around. I think he's obviously a good player, nice touches, but his physicality is where he is really struggling. Especially in that position (No. 10), where sometimes you need to push the ball, get your body across, maybe draw a foul. I've not seen any of that at all.
"The good games that he has had were more about other players setting him up and maybe he had created a few opportunities for himself as well, but I think where he is playing now, you need to be a bit more physical.
"From when he first joined to Sunday afternoon against Newcastle, I've not seen enough for me to go, 'Right, there is someone there.' Sometimes you see someone and you think they just need a bit of time.
"But with him, I've not seen it yet. His body language is a bit poor as well. The money? He hasn't got any say in that whatsoever. So I'm not going to hold the fee against him. But in terms of basics…"
Huth also handed his compatriot some advice, but he thinks he could soon be packing his bags. He said: "If things don't go your way, just be horrible on the pitch. You can be horrible as a winger. You can run back, give your full-back a problem. You can get a throw or get a free kick - just be a nuisance for 90 minutes.
"But he hasn't shown the intensity for me to believe that he's going to be progressing this year. I think by Christmas, they will probably be looking to offload him if he doesn't improve because he has become an expensive problem for Liverpool. They dropped a lot of cash on him."
