Fernandez has been a target for Manchester City in the final weeks of the transfer window, with the Blues conducting a major revamp of their midfield ranks under Enzo Maresca.
Bernardo Silva joined Real Madrid on a free transfer in June, Rodri completed a £65.4 million move to Barcelona a few weeks ago. Tijjani Reijnders has joined Al Qadsiah after just 12 months at the Etihad Stadium.
Nico Gonzalez, who joined City from Porto in January 2025, proved his mettle in the absence of Rodri last season and despite expressing publicly and internally that he was keen to stay and fight for minutes under Maresca, the 24-year-old Spaniard has been sold to Newcastle United for £52 million.
Despite their club record £116 million signing of England international Elliot Anderson, City have come under criticism for taking a pro-sale approach to their first transfer window since the departure of Pep Guardiola, who brought the curtain down on an illustrious decade at the Etihad Stadium in May.

Manchester City agree €140M fee for Chelsea's Fernandez
However, the last week has seen the Blues make further advancements in the transfer market, completing the signing of Moroccan star Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille for a whopping €100 million, with the 18-year-old expected to make his Manchester City debut on Friday night against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Furthermore, Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez was missing from his side’s squad in their 2-0 win over Luton Town in the Carabao Cup second round amid talk of a reunion with former Stamford Bridge manager Enzo Maresca at the Etihad Stadium.
According to TYC Sports, Manchester City and Chelsea have reached an agreement worth €140 million for the transfer of Enzo Fernandez, who is set to pen a six-year contract in the north-west with the option of an additional 12 months.

Where will Fernandez fit in at Manchester City?
It remains to be seen where Fernandez will fit into Maresca's midfield. Anderson is expected to be a regular starter in the deep-lying number six area following his arrival from Nottingham Forest.
Marc Guehi started in a midfield two alongside Anderson in the win over Bournemouth and could play a similar role when the Blues face his former club Crystal Palace in London on Friday night.
Rayan Cherki made the number 10 position his own under Guardiola last season but started last week's Premier League opener on the bench, albeit coming on and changing the game with a pair of assists.
Phil Foden has a big season in store off the back of penning a long-term contract renewal, with Fernandez expected to be competing with the England international and Cherki in the advanced midfield position - behind the trio of Erling Haaland, Antoine Semenyo and Jeremy Doku.
