Liam Delap has completed a permanent transfer from Chelsea to Nottingham Forest, bringing an end to his spell at Stamford Bridge.
The striker leaves the Blues after arriving at the club in June last year and now begins the next chapter of his career at the City Ground, where he will look to establish himself as an important figure for Forest.
Delap made an immediate contribution following his arrival in west London, becoming part of Chelsea’s successful FIFA Club World Cup squad during the summer. The forward featured in six of the Blues’ seven matches during the tournament and was handed a starting role in four of those fixtures as the club went on to lift the trophy.
His involvement in the competition underlined the faith that Chelsea had in the young striker, with Delap given valuable experience on the biggest stage early in his time with the club.
Over the course of last season, the forward made 41 appearances across four different competitions for Chelsea. While opportunities to lead the line were competitive, Delap remained a regular member of the squad and played his part throughout a demanding campaign.
Among his most memorable moments were goals against Barcelona at CHELSEA and Fulham away from home. Both strikes provided highlights during his Chelsea career and demonstrated the qualities that have made him one of the more highly regarded young forwards in English football.
However, with competition for places continuing to intensify at Stamford Bridge, Delap has now opted for a new challenge with Nottingham Forest. The move offers the striker the opportunity to take on a fresh role and potentially secure the consistent first-team football needed at this important stage of his development.
Forest will be hoping Delap can bring energy, physicality and a genuine goal threat to their attacking options. The 23-year-old has already gained valuable experience in the Premier League and European competition, while his time at Chelsea has also exposed him to the pressure of competing for major honours.
For Chelsea, the departure marks another change within their attacking department as the club continue to reshape their squad.
Delap leaves Stamford Bridge with a FIFA Club World Cup winners’ medal and 41 appearances to his name. Although his time with CHELSEA was relatively short, he produced several memorable moments and played a role during a successful period for the club.
