Chelsea open£55m Lamine Camara talks amid Enzo uncertainty

Chelsea are reportedly in negotiations with Monaco over a move for Lamine Camara as they prepare for the possibility of losing Enzo Fernandez before the transfer window closes.

The Blues have tracked the Senegal international throughout August, but their interest now appears to have moved beyond the enquiry stage.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that Chelsea and Monaco are negotiating over Camara, with the Ligue 1 club looking for a deal worth around £55million.

The development comes as Manchester City continue to consider a late move for Fernandez.

Chelsea step up Lamine Camara pursuit

ReadChelsea first reported Chelsea’s interest in Camara earlier this month, when the Blues had made an enquiry for the Monaco midfielder.

At that stage, Chelsea had not moved beyond monitoring the 22-year-old and his potential availability.

That has now changed.

According to reporting carrying Sacha Tavolieri’s latest update, Monaco sporting director Thiago Scuro is involved in negotiations and hopes to conclude a sale worth around €60m during the final days of the transfer window.

Ben Jacobs has separately reported that Camara has been offered to Chelsea and Liverpool as a late-window opportunity after Crystal Palace previously saw an offer rejected.

Chelsea therefore face competition if they decide to push towards an agreement.

Enzo Fernandez uncertainty shapes Chelsea move

The timing is particularly significant because of the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Fernandez.

Chelsea are prepared to consider selling the Argentina international if their valuation is met and Xabi Alonso’s squad can be sufficiently strengthened before the deadline.

ReadChelsea has already covered the latest Enzo Fernandez and Manchester City transfer situation, with City continuing to consider a substantial late move.

The Guardian reports Chelsea are looking at potential midfield reinforcements and identifies Camara as one option, with Bournemouth reluctant to sell Alex Scott and Crystal Palace determined to keep Adam Wharton.

Camara would not necessarily represent a like-for-like replacement for Fernandez.

The Senegal international can operate in deeper midfield areas and would give Alonso another option alongside Moises Caicedo and Chelsea’s other central midfielders.

Valentin Barco also strengthened his own case by producing an encouraging competitive debut against Luton, with ReadChelsea analysing how Barco gave Alonso another Chelsea midfield option.

Chelsea face important final days of transfer window

There is still a significant distance between negotiations and an agreement.

Chelsea have not yet been reported to have reached a deal with Monaco, while Liverpool’s interest gives Camara another possible Premier League destination.

However, the progression from an enquiry earlier this month to reported negotiations now makes this a considerably more advanced Chelsea transfer story.

Whether the Blues complete the move may ultimately depend on what happens with Fernandez.

With the transfer deadline approaching, the two situations are becoming increasingly connected.
