Everton and Bournemouth have met 24 times in competitive games
The overall record could hardly be closer, with 11 wins each
Everton finally ended a long wait for an away win last season
Everton return to the Vitality Stadium tomorrow looking to build on their encouraging start to the season – and improve a surprisingly difficult recent record against Bournemouth.
There is not the history attached to this fixture that comes with many of Everton’s Premier League opponents.
In fact, the clubs had met only three times before Bournemouth’s promotion to the top flight in 2015.
What has followed, however, has produced some remarkable games, late drama and a head-to-head record which is even.
Saturday’s game will be Bournemouth’s first competitive home fixture of the season, with redevelopment work at the Vitality Stadium continuing ahead of Everton’s visit.

Across all competitions, the clubs have met 24 times.
Everton have won 11. Bournemouth have won 11. Just two have finished level.

The Premier League record tips slightly in Bournemouth’s favour, with nine wins to Everton’s seven from 18 meetings.
That would have seemed unlikely when the sides first encountered each other.
Their first competitive meeting came in the FA Cup in January 1937, when Everton beat Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic 5-0 at Goodison Park.
They had to wait another 48 years to meet again.
That came in the League Cup in 1985, with Everton winning both legs. Howard Kendall’s side won 3-2 at Goodison before completing the job with a 2-0 victory on the south coast.
It would be another 30 years before Bournemouth and Everton shared a pitch again.
Six goals and a remarkable Premier League introduction
Few Evertonians who watched the clubs’ first Premier League meeting in November 2015 are likely to have forgotten it.
Everton travelled to the Vitality Stadium and appeared to have won the game when Ross Barkley scored deep into stoppage time to make it 3-2.
Some Everton supporters even made their way onto the pitch during the celebrations.
But Bournemouth weren’t finished.
Junior Stanislas equalised in the eighth minute of added time to make it 3-3, bringing an extraordinary afternoon to an equally extraordinary conclusion.
The return fixture at Goodison was rather less dramatic, with Everton winning 2-1.
That 2015/16 campaign also brought an FA Cup meeting on the south coast, where goals from Barkley and Romelu Lukaku secured a 2-0 Everton victory.

The Vitality Stadium has subsequently become a difficult ground for the Blues.

That final entry changed a fairly grim Everton statistic.
Before last December’s visit, the Blues had never won a Premier League match at Bournemouth.
Indeed, Everton had gone six successive visits to the Vitality Stadium in all competitions without winning, losing five of them.
Grealish finally ends the wait
Everton eventually broke that sequence on 2 December 2025.
A tight game appeared to be heading towards a goalless draw until Jack Grealish struck in the 78th minute to give David Moyes’ side a 1-0 victory.
It was Everton’s first Premier League win at the Vitality and their first victory at Bournemouth in any competition since the League Cup in October 1985 – a wait of more than 40 years.
The Premier League’s match report described Grealish as Everton’s hero after his deflected 20-yard effort finally separated the sides.
Bournemouth responded by winning 2-1 at the Hill Dickinson in February, meaning tomorrow’s game arrives with the overall competitive record locked at 11 victories apiece.

Five memorable Bournemouth v Everton meetings
Bournemouth 3-3 Everton – November 2015
The obvious place to start. Everton led 2-0, Bournemouth recovered to 2-2, Barkley seemingly won it in stoppage time and Stanislas then equalised even later.
It remains one of the wildest meetings between the clubs.
Everton 6-3 Bournemouth – February 2017
This one came at Goodison, but no history of the fixture would be complete without it.
Lukaku scored four as Everton won a nine-goal thriller, with James McCarthy and Barkley also on target.
Bournemouth 4-1 Everton – November 2022
The start of a painful few days on the south coast.
Bournemouth knocked Everton out of the League Cup with a 4-1 victory and then beat Frank Lampard’s side 3-0 in the Premier League at the same ground four days later.
Everton 1-0 Bournemouth – May 2023
Surely the most important meeting of them all from an Everton perspective.
The Blues went into the final day of the season knowing victory would guarantee Premier League survival.
With the tension rising around Goodison, Abdoulaye Doucouré struck from outside the penalty area in the 57th minute.
Everton held on.
The Premier League’s report of the game tells the story of a victory which kept Everton up and confirmed the relegation of Leicester City and Leeds United.
Bournemouth 0-1 Everton – December 2025
Forty years after Everton’s previous victory at Bournemouth, Grealish finally ended the wait with the only goal of the game.
A fixture Bournemouth have transformed
The broader history is fascinating because of how sharply the balance has changed.
Everton won the first three competitive meetings between the clubs, beginning with that 5-0 FA Cup victory in 1937 and continuing with the two League Cup games in 1985.
They also enjoyed the better of the early exchanges after Bournemouth reached the Premier League.
More recently, it has been a very different story.
Bournemouth have won nine of the last 12 competitive meetings.
Everton’s three victories during that sequence were the 1-0 survival win at Goodison in May 2023, a 3-0 home victory five months later and last December’s 1-0 success at the Vitality.
That Bournemouth run has completely transformed the historical head-to-head.
After 24 competitive meetings, there is nothing between them:
Everton 11 wins. Bournemouth 11 wins. Two draws.
Saturday therefore offers Everton the chance not only to record consecutive Premier League victories at the Vitality Stadium for the first time, but to edge ahead in a head-to-head record which could hardly be closer.
