GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) — The Green Bay Packers will bring awareness to mental health before kickoff of Friday night’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, honoring the National Alliance on Mental Illness, or NAMI, as part of the team’s Packers Give Back program.
Representatives from NAMI, including staff and volunteers, will be on the field before the game and recognized during the event.
Michelle Missall, president of NAMI Brown County, said NAMI is the largest national grassroots organization on mental health in the nation and started in Wisconsin.
She said the organization provides support groups, education classes and programs, advocacy, and crisis intervention team training for law enforcement around the state. She said NAMI also connects people with resources and offers a safe space for people touched by mental illness and their families.
“It’s still something that’s tough to talk about. A lot of people struggle with that. And so the Packers stepping up and saying, hey, this is important. We want to address this. This is something that many people in our community deal with is just a really great way to beautifully bring that to the forefront and make people a little more comfortable talking about mental illness,” Missall said.
‘Once in a lifetime opportunity’

“It’s such an incredible opportunity for us. It’s great for folks to be able to go to the game, historic Lambeau Field. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for a lot of our membership,” Missall said.
“And really being able to amplify that platform on mental illness, tackling the stigma and letting folks who might be struggling in silence know you’re seen. You’re not alone. We’re here for you,” Missall added.
Missall said she and other staff and volunteers from NAMI will be on the field before kickoff, which is at 7 p.m.
Another 1,000 leaders and staff from NAMI received free tickets to the game.
