Chelsea defender Axel Disasi has completed a loan move to Crystal Palace for the 2026/27 season, giving the France international an opportunity to secure regular first-team football at Selhurst Park.
The centre-back temporarily leaves Stamford Bridge after making more than 60 appearances for Chelsea since joining the club from AS Monaco in August 2023.
Disasi arrived in west London with a strong reputation following his performances in Ligue 1 and quickly became an important member of Chelsea’s defensive squad. During his time with the Blues, he has experienced European football, Premier League competition and the demands that come with representing one of England’s biggest clubs.
However, opportunities for consistent first-team football have become increasingly difficult to secure, with Chelsea possessing considerable depth and competition across their defensive options.
The move to Crystal Palace therefore represents an important opportunity for Disasi to reset and focus on playing regularly.
The 28-year-old also arrives at Palace with considerable Premier League experience. His previous loan spells with Aston Villa and West Ham have provided him with further exposure to English football, with his time at West Ham particularly productive as he started 16 of their 17 matches in all competitions during the second half of last season.
That consistency should give Palace confidence that they are acquiring a defender capable of making an immediate contribution.
Opinion: A Great Move for Disasi
From Disasi’s perspective, this loan could be exactly what he needs at this stage of his career.
The biggest benefit is likely to be regular football. After spending periods of his CHELSEA career competing for opportunities, the chance to become an important member of Palace’s defence could allow him to rebuild confidence and rediscover his best form.
Playing week in, week out can make a huge difference to a defender. Consistency allows a centre-back to develop partnerships, understand his teammates’ movements and build rhythm, something that is difficult to achieve when appearances are sporadic.
Disasi also has the opportunity to demonstrate that he remains capable of performing at a high level in the Premier League. A strong campaign at Selhurst Park could put him firmly back on Chelsea’s radar or potentially increase his options should he eventually seek a permanent move.
His physical presence, aerial ability and experience could make him a valuable asset for Palace, while the responsibility of playing regularly should help him mature further as a defender.
Ultimately, this move gives Disasi a fresh challenge without closing the door on his CHELSEA future.
After more than 60 appearances for the Blues, he already knows what is required at Stamford Bridge. Now he has the chance to prove his quality elsewhere, and a successful season with Crystal Palace could be hugely beneficial for both his confidence and his career.
