**[Everton](https://ReadEverton.com) have spent much of the summer looking at right-back options, but David Moyes’ latest comments suggest Merlin Rohl may be giving him something to think about.**
Rohl is not, by definition, a natural full-back. He was brought in as a midfielder and would not have been the obvious answer to a position Everton have been trying to strengthen.
But Moyes has used him there and, judging by his comments before the trip to Bournemouth, has been pleased with what he has seen.
The Everton boss said Rohl is keen to play at right-back and believes he has done well there.
Just as importantly, Moyes likes the fact that the German has embraced the role rather than questioned it.
Moyes said he wants players “who are not going to question it and want to do the job”.
That sounds simple enough, but it matters in a squad that is not exactly overflowing with depth.
Everton have been linked with numerous right-backs during the window and may still bring one in before Monday’s deadline.
Rohl does not suddenly make that need disappear.
What he does offer, though, is flexibility.
If Moyes trusts him to fill in at right-back when required, while still using him as a midfield option, it gives Everton a little more cover in two areas rather than one.
That could prove useful whether or not another defender arrives.
There is also something very Moyes-like about it.
He has always valued players who are prepared to do a job for the team, particularly those who can handle more than one position without making an issue of it. Ask Jake O’Brien.
Rohl appears to have made a good impression on that front.
Everton may still decide they need a specialist right-back.
But if they do not get one, Moyes already has one more option than perhaps seemed obvious a few weeks ago.
