Manchester United endured a pretty dismal start to the 2026/27 Premier League season. They entered their opening game against Hull City as hot favourites, but nonetheless fell to a 2-0 defeat against the newly-promoted side.
As such, United fans have called upon their team to make further reinformcements in the ongoing summer transfer window. With the window due to slam shut in just five days, will they have enough time to bring anyone else on board?
Well, it seems that they have a La Liga superstar well within their sights. Their midfield lacks depth at the moment, but this particular target could bolster their ranks in the middle of the park significantly.
According to a recent report Spanish outlet Cadena SER, Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga is amongst the players who United are looking at to snap up before the deadline.
Right now, United are thought to be preparing a bid of £50 million for the French international, though it is unclear if they have agreed terms with the club or the player’s representatives as of yet.
United aren’t the only club in the race, however. Chelsea could also make a move for the player – according to TalkSPORT, he is one of four players on a shortlist to replace Enzo Fernandez, should he leave the club in the coming days.
Furthermore, according to TransferFeed, teams such as Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, PSG and Juventus have also been linked with Camavinga in the last few weeks.
United have some serious competition in this particular transfer hunt. It remains to be seen if they’ll be successful, but they certainly seem to be in the mix at the time of writing.

What would Eduardo Camavinga bring to Man Utd?
A phenomenally talented midfielder, Camavinga is a player who is in desperate need of a change of scenery. To this end, a move to Old Trafford could be highly benefical for all parties involved.
A technically-gifted, physical midfielder with an excellent range of passing and strong defensive instincts, Camavinga is excellently well-rounded and could potentially be a brilliant fit for Michael Carrick’s system.
Despite this, United now have two solid defensive midfielders on their books. They snapped up Andrey Santos earlier in the window and recently signed Carlos Baleba from Brighton.
To this end, adding another holding player to the squad seems excessive, unless Carrick has other plans for him. In theory, he could play as a box-to-box midfielder, given his natural athleticism.
Still, if they want another body to fill that role, they’d probably be better off signing someone who is a natural fit for it. Bringing in someone who might be able to play there to a natural level (rather than someone who will) doesn’t make an awful lot of sense.
As we’ve mentioned earlier, Camavinga won’t be cheap, either. He’s a great player on his day, but we’d advise United to look elsewhere given the current state of play.
