Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Igor Tyjon from Blackburn Rovers. The 18-year-old striker joins after a long-running pursuit and will continue his development in north London.
Tyjon has already made three senior appearances for Rovers and debuted in the Championship at 16. He represented England at the Under-17 World Cup in Qatar and has also played for Poland’s under-16s.
“It’s a dream come true for [my family] as well, it’s always a nice feeling when you make your family happy, so I’m buzzing for them as well,” he said.

The Premier League champions’ status and academy pathway helped convince him. “Who doesn’t want to join the champions? I can’t wait to be part of the team. The pathway, the staff, the players, everything about it, it’s just top. I’m excited to meet the group, meet the players, hit the ground running and have a good season.”
Tyjon said the jump from under-21s to first-team football at Blackburn had prepared him. “Going from under-21s to first-team football is two different things. I think with the fans, with the pressure, it’s kind of helped me along the way. The support has always helped me out at games, just them believing in me, supporting me really helps me out. I’m taking that with me to Arsenal.”
He already knows several Arsenal youngsters from international duty, including Jack Porter, Elijah Upson, Theo Julienne and Max Dowman. “Just being out there with the lads, being part of the group is absolutely amazing. I know a couple of the [Arsenal] boys from international duties… so it’s good to link up.”
The deal follows earlier reports of an initial fee around £1million to £1.2million plus add-ons. Tyjon will train with the first team while featuring for the under-21s and is expected to receive some senior minutes this season.
Supporters will welcome another high-potential addition to the academy ranks. The striker now begins the next chapter of his career at the Premier League champions. Further first-team opportunities will depend on his progress in the coming months.
