Chelsea have confirmed Mamadou Sarr has joined Real Sociedad on a season-long loan for the 2026/27 campaign.
The 20-year-old defender completed his move to Spain on Friday after travelling to San Sebastián for a medical earlier this week.
Chelsea have now formally announced the transfer, giving Sarr the opportunity to secure regular first-team football in La Liga after finding minutes difficult to come by at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea confirm Mamadou Sarr loan
ReadChelsea reported on Thursday that Sarr had arrived for his Real Sociedad medical after the two clubs reached an agreement over a season-long loan.
That deal has now been completed.
Chelsea confirmed in an official club statement that Sarr will spend the remainder of the season with Real Sociedad.
The Senegal international has made seven senior appearances for Chelsea since joining from Strasbourg in 2025.
His first season as a Blues player included a return loan to Strasbourg before he was recalled midway through the campaign.
Chelsea had considered several possible routes for Sarr this summer.
ReadChelsea previously reported that the club had become willing to sanction a permanent sale, having initially expected another temporary departure.
The final decision has instead been to retain control of Sarr while giving him the chance to play regularly in Spain.
Previous reporting surrounding the agreement indicated there was no option to buy, meaning Chelsea would expect Sarr back once his season at Sociedad is completed.
Sarr exit reduces Alonso’s defensive options
Sarr’s departure continues the restructuring of Xabi Alonso’s defensive group during the final days of the transfer window.
Chelsea have simultaneously moved to strengthen their longer-term options by agreeing a £40million deal for Honest Ahanor.
The club must still determine Ahanor’s immediate pathway once that transfer is completed.
For Sarr, however, the immediate plan is now clear.
Regular La Liga football with Real Sociedad gives the defender an opportunity to continue his development before Chelsea reassess his place in Alonso’s squad next summer.
