If you’re like me, you may have forgotten that Caleb Wiley is technically a Chelsea player. The 21-year-old left back has spent each of his two seasons at the club since joining from Atlanta United in MLS out on loan, first at RC Strasbourg then at Watford. Both seasons he’s dealt with a fair few injury issues, which have limited his involvement: he’s made just 21 appearances in those 24 months.
So it’s another reset for year three, this time with a loan to Preston North End, which was made official earlier today. PNE have been a steady midtable presence in the Championship for much of the 21st century, and that’s where they find themselves this season as well. Hopefully Wiley can get some minutes and get his career back on track with them
