On to Cincinnati.
Time to get the hell out of Jacksonville.
The Bucs got badly pushed around by the Jags in the first of two controlled scrimmages this week. Both Bucs coach Todd Bowles and quarterback Baker Mayfield were not happy at all with the effort. Same for Chris Godwin.
Well, Bowles, speaking after the shutout loss in the final worthless preseason game this summer, was not a happy camper.
Oh, he didn’t unload on his team as he did after the galling loss to the Dixie Chicks last year on _Thursday Night Football_. But Bowles didn’t sugarcoat things Friday night.
> “Not good enough,” Bowles said about the play on the field by the mostly soon-to-be former Bucs. “Any time you get shut out — we didn’t protect the quarterback enough. We couldn’t run the ball.
>
> “And we have up a special teams touchdown.”
Other than that, how was the car ride, Mrs. Kennedy?
Joe almost expected Bowles to break out John McKay’s famous one-liner. After yet another loss by the Bucs, the original Bucs coach said, “We didn’t block very well today. But we made up for it by not tackling.”
It’s time to start worrying about real football.
