Chelsea’s very positive transfer window may well not yet be over, with them potentially still needing to replace Enzo Fernandez this summer.

Fernandez has been pushing hard to leave the club this summer, and even reportedly asked to be left out of League Cup duty against Luton Town.

The Argentine is now hoping to secure a move to Manchester City, where he would reunite with former manager Enzo Maresca.

John Obi Mikel wants Alex Scott as Enzo Fernandez replacement at Chelsea

Selling him would mean the Blues have to sign a replacement before Tuesday’s deadline if they do not want to leave themselves short in the middle of the park for this season.

Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel has vouched for the club to bring in Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott as a replacement for Fernandez, should they need one this summer.

He said on the Obi One Podcast: “Absolutely. I will absolutely endorse that. I think he’s a top top midfield player. 22 years old. A player that has so much potential. Very very good player. Good on the ball. The composure that he has on the ball is just absolutely superb.

“Can play in tight spaces, can wriggle his way around tight spaces. And that’s what I like. That’s what I love about the player. He’s a bit of a maverick, isn’t he? You know, he has the socks like Jack Grealish.

“He’s a bit of a maverick. You know, he’s a top player. I like him. I love what I what I saw last season, you know, with, you know, you know, last season. The way he played, he gets around the pitch.

“He has a lot of energy. His engine is good. He can run. He’s a player that can get into the box. He can score goals. We saw him get a few goals last season.”

Chelsea have shown plenty of interest in the midfielder this summer, even having a couple of bids rejected by Bournemouth so far during the transfer window.

Now the season is underway, the Blues will find it far more difficult to sign a club’s key player due to them having very little time to replace them.

Bournemouth’s public stance is that Scott is not for sale, and this is the same message from Crystal Palace when it comes to Adam Wharton.

With the Eagles looking set to struggle this season, they will certainly not be looking to part ways with the England international.

The pressure is now on the Blues to not be bullied into a major player sale, either by Fernandez or City, or it could greatly harm their aim of catching up with the top sides in the Premier League this season.
