Porto considering loan move for Chelsea-bound centre-back of Nigerian descent
Honest Ahanor has reportedly attracted interest from FC Porto over a potential loan move, with the young defender closing in on a transfer to Chelsea from Atalanta.
The Italian-born Nigerian central defender is closing in on a move to Chelsea, with the Premier League club working to finalise an agreement with Atalanta for the highly-rated youngster.
Ahanor’s next step after completing the Chelsea transfer is expected to be a loan move, allowing him to continue his development through regular first-team football.
Strasbourg, which shares the same ownership group as Chelsea, along with a number of unnamed Premier League clubs, have been touted as possible destinations.
However, a move to Strasbourg is not guaranteed, with Porto now emerging as another option for the 18-year-old.
Transfer market expert Alfredo Pedullà reports that Porto have made an enquiry about taking Ahanor on loan.
The Portuguese club are believed to be interested in adding the defender to their squad as they assess options for the new campaign.
Porto manager Francesco Farioli is said to be particularly interested in Ahanor, potentially giving the Portuguese giants a strong incentive to pursue a loan agreement with Chelsea.
The emergence of Porto means there could be competition for Ahanor’s temporary destination once his transfer to Chelsea is completed.
Chelsea will ultimately have to decide which environment is considered best for the defender’s continued development.
Strasbourg remains an option because of the shared ownership structure, while Porto could offer another pathway for Ahanor to gain valuable first-team experience.
