Chelsea defender Jorja Fox has completed a permanent move to Ipswich Town, bringing an end to her long association with the Blues.
Fox joined Chelsea’s Academy at just eight years old and progressed through the club’s youth system before eventually making the step up to senior football. Her senior debut came during the 2020/21 campaign, when she featured in Chelsea’s 4-0 away victory over Aston Villa.
The defender continued to gain first-team experience that season, making her first senior start in a 5-0 victory against London City Lionesses.
Having developed through Chelsea’s renowned academy system for a decade, Fox signed her first professional contract with the club in August 2021, on the day of her 18th birthday.
The move marked another important milestone in a career that had already seen Fox rise through the ranks at one of the biggest clubs in women’s football.
With opportunities at senior level limited by the considerable competition within Chelsea’s squad, Fox subsequently embarked on a series of loan spells designed to provide her with regular first-team football.
She spent time with Charlton Athletic, Brighton and Hove Albion and Crystal Palace, gaining valuable experience in different environments and competitions.
Fox eventually signed a contract extension with CHELSEA in August 2024, demonstrating the club’s continued belief in her potential despite her temporary moves away from Stamford Bridge.
Last season, she joined Newcastle United on another loan spell, continuing her development away from Chelsea before now making a permanent switch to Ipswich Town.
The move represents an important new chapter for Fox, who will be hoping to establish herself as a regular first-team player and make the most of the opportunity to play consistently.
Her departure also brings to a close a remarkable journey that began when she joined Chelsea as an eight-year-old.
Fox’s development was not limited to club football, either. The defender represented England at every youth level during her time with Chelsea, underlining her standing as one of the country’s promising young players.
A permanent move to Ipswich now provides Fox with the opportunity to take the next step in her career and build on the experience she has accumulated through her academy education and numerous loan spells.
For CHELSEA, meanwhile, Fox’s departure is another example of a player emerging from the club’s youth system and moving on to continue her development elsewhere.
