Liverpool are still hoping to sign Yankuba Minteh from Brighton amid calls from his manager Fabian Hurzeler for the forward to make a decision on his future.
Commenting on links to Liverpool, Hurzeler said: “From my perspective, Minteh, he’s a Brighton player; he needs to commit to this club.
“Because he knows that these rumours only come because he benefits from everything here.
“From how he’s been worked with, how he’s been protected from everyone, how he’s been developed. So I think that’s also important for him.
“Then in the end, we all know, everyone knows, how the football business works. Let’s see the ideas from Liverpool.
“We have a clear idea how we want to go forward, but we have a lot of things in our hands regarding this player.
“But in the end, there’s Tony [Bloom, owner], there’s Paul [Barber, CEO], together with them we try to make the right decision.”
Liverpool deal to sign Minteh is “NOT fully off”
According to journalist Foday Manneh, who Paul Joyce credited with the first reports of Liverpool’s interest, Liverpool are not totally out of the race to sign Minteh.
He said on X: “Yankuba Minteh to Liverpool FC; the interest and pursuit is NOT fully off. LFC have discussed Minteh internally in the past 24 hours after finding it difficult to have other suitable options.
“The head coach, Andoni Iraola has also informed the recruitment team that he wants a Minteh-type player, with both defensive and attacking qualities. Other options are not enough.
“Brighton’s price could also come down after rejecting £50M and £60M bids, especially if they get a replacement soon and the deal could be reactivated.”

Minteh is a good player, but his injury means a hypothetical debut would come in 2 months’ time
After surgery was needed to repair damage to Minteh’s hip, he was ruled out for three months, but with two months left of his recovery, Liverpool would only see him in action in late October or early November if they signed him as hoped.
That said, his pace and running power would be an exciting addition to Liverpool’s forward options even if he’s yet to display elite goalscoring ability.
