Liverpool are now said to have booked a medical for upcoming new signing Bradley Barcola. The Reds have had a relatively quiet summer transfer window, signing Victor Muñoz on a permanent deal and Ronald Araujo on a loan deal, while Jeremy Jacquet had already agreed to join.
Andoni Iraola has been in the market for a top winger to replace Mohamed Salah, and Paris Saint-Germain winger Barcola quickly became a target after declaring his desire to leave. Barcola had a superb World Cup with France and has no intention of returning to Parc des Princes to play back-up to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is not going to replaced, given he is probably the best in the world in his position.
Liverpool have agreed a £120million fee to sign Barcola, but some of that is made up of add-ons, and according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the medical will take place tomorrow, on Sunday.
"Liverpool have booked a medical for Bradley Barcola on Sunday, then he will sign a five year deal until June 2031. Documents exchanged on Thursday and approved yesterday; Bradley wanted to say goodbye before travelling. Final fee: £106m plus £17m add-ons."
Barcola played a key role in PSG's second successive Champions League title last season, but he either played a supplementary role on the left or had to play out of position for the most part. Now 23 years of age and clearly possessing the ability to be a starter at a top club, he has been pushing for a move.
The Frenchman becomes the most expensive Premier League transfer of the summer so far, surpassing the £117million Chelsea paid for Morgan Rogers and the £116million paid by Manchester City for Elliot Anderson.
Barcola's Ligue 1 stats 2025/26
Appearances: 29
Goals: 11
Assists: 1
Pass success: 83.5%
Key passes: 1.3 per game
shots: 2.3 per game
Liverpool's attack gets a boost, but there could be more change
Liverpool's attack is starting to look more complete, but there could be more business done due to the likely departure of Cody Gakpo. The departure of the Dutchman would leave Iraola certainly needing another winger, although it's not going to be one as expensive as Barcola.
Elsewhere, Liverpool have two strikers in Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike, but with the latter currently injured, Iraola may feel a little short there. The lack of depth out wide likely tells us Iraola really believes in younger stars like Muñoz and Rio Ngumoha.
