The brief and often frustrating spell of Marc Guiu in west London seems to be reaching its end. RB Leipzig have agreed terms with Chelsea for a permanent transfer, as per latest transfer news.
Leipzig move quickly to seal Marc Guiu deal
RB Leipzig have completed an agreement with Chelsea for Marc Guiu, as reported by ESPN. The move is now considered done on both sides. The Bundesliga club kept talks almost entirely private, catching many off guard given that Napoli had been strongly linked with the striker in recent weeks.
The base fee will land below €20m, though the Blues have secured a sell-on clause as part of the deal. This means they could benefit further if Guiu grows into a bigger star in Germany. The 20-year-old Spaniard is likely to travel to Leipzig shortly to complete his medical and put pen to paper on a new contract.
For Leipzig, the timing makes plenty of sense. Head coach Martin Demichelis has been searching for fresh attacking options. The club sold key names like Yan Diomande and Lois Openda over the summer. With striker options limited due to fitness concerns, Guiu arrives at a moment when he could quickly find game time. The German club have also brought back Christopher Nkunku.
A short but eventful stay in west London
Guiu’s Chelsea journey began with real promise back in July 2024. The Blues triggered his €6 million release clause to sign him away from Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy. He had barely fifteen minutes to prove himself in Barca’s first team, but Chelsea saw enough potential to hand him a long contract.
Since arriving in the Premier League, Guiu has played 29 games for the Blues and found the net 8 times. These moments showed flashes of real quality but never quite turned into regular starts. A loan spell at Sunderland last season was supposed to offer him regular football, but he made just three appearances there before being recalled early.
Across the entire 2025-26 season, the striker managed 3 goals and 2 assists in 16 competitive matches. These are the numbers that show how limited his opportunities truly were. Chelsea’s ongoing squad changes under Xabi Alonso made his exit very likely, especially once the manager left him out of matchday squads for matches against Fulham and Luton Town.

Chelsea’s summer transfer window so far
Chelsea have already sold or loaned out a long list of players this summer, including Nicolas Jackson, Trevoh Chalobah, Andrey Santos, and Marc Cucurella. The club continues trimming a squad that had grown far too large.
For Guiu, though, this move could be exactly what his career needs right now. Leipzig has built a strong name for developing young talent into genuine stars. That said, a new start away from the pressure of a title-chasing PL club may give him the regular minutes and confidence he has been missing.
Whether this becomes a smart piece of business for both clubs will depend heavily on how quickly Guiu adapts to the Bundesliga. But the early signs suggest Leipzig believe they are getting a player capable of far more than his recent numbers suggest.
