Victor Munoz now has a goal and assist in his first two games for Liverpool, and though he “hasn’t been perfect,” Andoni Iraola used that to praise the winger.
Liverpool’s £34.5 million signing has got off to a strong start, coming off the bench to win the equalising penalty at Newcastle before scoring a stunning leveller against Nottingham Forest.
This immediate return from Munoz has served as a welcome relief in an otherwise poor start to the campaign for Iraola’s side.
Speaking in his post-match press conference after the 2-2 draw with Forest, the head coach praised his No. 23 for continuing to make an impact despite not everything coming off for him.
“Victor has been very good in both games,” Iraola told reporters.
“I like that he sometimes hasn’t made the best decisions, has sometimes made some fouls, everything hasn’t been perfect, but he’s continued trying all the time.
“He’s gone again and again and again. I like this a lot from the wingers.
“The other day he contributed with the penalty, today with a goal. He’s always been a threat and also defensively he has helped us a lot.
“So I’m happy with him, yes.”
Victor Munoz’s stats vs. Forest prove Iraola’s point

In Saturday’s draw with Forest, Munoz was the most-involved attacker by far, with his 56 touches over four times that of Alexander Isak (13), along with a game-high four shots on goal.
He contested more duels than any other Liverpool player (17), though the fact he only won six of those serves as evidence to Iraola’s point.
Munoz also covered the third-most ground of any of Iraola’s starters (10.9 km), making a game-high 24 sprints and recording an unbeaten top speed of 32.6 km/h.
His infectious work rate and relentlessness in attack will quickly make him a favourite among supporters.

It is unclear whether Munoz was brought in as a first-choice starter, but there is certainly an argument that he should take up that duty on the right flank once Bradley Barcola arrives.
With Cody Gakpo not guaranteed to leave – and having also scored one and assisted one so far – and there high hopes for Rio Ngumoha, Liverpool’s wide options could soon become a strength.
Liverpool will continue to push for another winger in the final days of the transfer window, but whether it is Yankuba Minteh, Ismaila Sarr or a different player entirely who arrives, Munoz has now set the standard.
