Steven Gerrard teases "fantastic" signing Liverpool are close to completing

**Bradley Barcola is set to join Liverpool this summer, with a £123m agreement in place to bring the Frenchman to Anfield, and Steven Gerrard is excited about it.**

David Ornstein reports that a deal is in place for Liverpool to pay £106m up front for Barcola, with a further £17m in add-ons set to take the overall value of the transfer to £123m. This figure – if achieved – would make Barcola the second most expensive signing in Premier League history.

Ornstein reports in [The Athletic](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7542638/2026/08/29/bradley-barcola-liverpool-psg-transfer/?unlocked_article_code=1.9FA.ehF8.OFstVDwCUZbB&source=emp_shared_article&smid=url-share-ta&source=twitteruk): _“Liverpool have finalised an agreement to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain._

_“The Merseyside club will pay a package worth £106million (€125m) plus add-ons potentially rising to £17m (€20m) for the 23-year-old forward._

_“The France international is set to sign a five-year contract with Andoni Iraola’s side with a medical expected to take place in the next 24 hours._

_“As part of the agreement, Liverpool will make an additional £4.3m (€5m) solidarity payment for Barcola, covering the costs of the sell-on fee which Lyon negotiated with PSG upon his move in 2023._

_“A breakthrough in negotiations — helmed by sporting director Richard Hughes, Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan and Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon for Liverpool and Nasser Al-Khelaifi for PSG — came after the Merseyside club held key talks on Tuesday to bring clarity over the proposed transfer.”_

Steven Gerrard says Barcola has yet to hit his ceiling

------------------------------------------------------

Liverpool are signing a truly sensational player in Barcola. The 23-year-old France international has all the tools to become a truly elite operator at Anfield.

His best season for PSG was the 2024/25 season when he contributed 21 goals and 21 assists (42 G/A), but limited game time last season saw that drop to 13 goals and 7 assists (20 G/A).

At Liverpool, the former Lyon winger will be the undisputed starter, which should see him hit new heights. If he can contribute around 15 goals and 15 assists, that would be an incredible starting point for Barcola.

Speaking to TNT Sports ahead of Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest, Gerrard said the deal to sign Barcola is “fantastic.”

He said: _“Incredible talent. This is a player who has won two Champions Leagues in the last two years._

_“I don’t think he’s hit his ceiling yet, still think there’s potential there. Growth._

_“He can evolve into an even better player which is very exciting. But it’s the type of level of player that’s gonna help take Liverpool to the next level. So I think it’s a fantastic deal.”_
