The SEC has cried uncle.
Via multiple reports, the conference has indicated that it will comply with a court order blocking potential punishments for teams that sign former NFL players who have secured through the courts a fifth year of eligibility.
The decision allows LSU to add multiple players who had been released by professional teams.
Surely, the legal squabbles will continue over the effort to slam the door on players who had left college and signed with pro teams before realizing that the NCAA’s decision to grant five years of eligibility should also apply to them, retroactively.
Even more surely, the conferences and the NCAA will hope that the entire escapade gets Congress to pass the Protect College Sports Act, creating an antitrust exemption and picking the pockets of players under the guise of restoring order.
