As we move closer to the roster cut deadline tomorrow, the Dolphins waived the following 12 players in an effort to eventually get down to 53:
The list doesn’t come with any surprises. Aside from Huntley and Wease, the rest of the group only joined the Dolphins in 2026. None of the 12 players are vested veterans, so they will all fall to the waiver wire, where they will remain until the waiver claim deadline on Monday.
Wease signed with the Dolphins last year after going undrafted out of Mizzou. Wease had originally signed to play for Oklahoma, but he saw his role reduced after his sophomore campaign and opted to transfer to Missouri for his final two years of eligibility, totaling 109 catches for 1,566 yards and 10 touchdowns with the Tigers. He spent his rookie year on Miami’s practice squad after failing to make the initial 53-man roster last year, but he was elevated for the last three games of the regular season. He showed some promise as a depth option in the receiving corps with six catches for 139 yards and a touchdown.
Huntley also signed to Miami’s taxi squad last year after a five-year collegiate career at South Carolina. Like Wease, he spent his rookie year on the practice squad, but unlike Wease, he wasn’t called up for any games.
Austin is the only other player of note here. The former seventh-round corner out of Oregon State was originally drafted by the Bills in 2023, but he failed to make the 53-man roster as a rookie. The Texans immediately claimed him off waivers for their 53-man roster, and he played a minor role in three games before getting waived and re-signed to the practice squad. Houston released him from their taxi squad about two and a half weeks later, and the Patriots signed him the next day.
Austin played the final five games of the season for New England, playing a major snap share on defense and even starting a game. He finished his rookie year with nine total tackles, an interception, and two passes defensed. Over the past two seasons with the Patriots, Austin has been limited a bit by injuries, but he’s totaled 22 tackles and six passes defensed in 21 games, starting five.
