Grealish’s second spell in the first team at Manchester City has, in truth, always looked like a temporary arrangement.
Back at the club following last season’s loan at Everton, and with his contract at the Etihad Stadium due to expire next summer, the 30-year-old has been restricted to second-half substitute appearances in Manchester City’s opening two fixtures - the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal and last week's 2-1 win over Bournemouth.
That limited role is indicative of the club’s willingness to move Grealish on, and the winger’s exit would fit a summer of sweeping change in the club’s forward line.

So early in the post-Pep Guardiola era, the jury is still out on exactly what Enzo Maresca will want from his Manchester City wingers. It doesn’t look like Grealish fits the bill, however, and a move away now looks increasingly likely.
What next for Grealish?
A number of clubs have reportedly registered their interest in the England international. According to The Athletic, Sunderland have lodged a loan offer that would see Manchester City cover part of Grealish’s wages and include the option of a permanent move next summer, while Everton and Aston Villa - the club where he first made his name - are also said to be in contact with his camp.
Interestingly, a report from Fabrizio Romano agrees that the Villans and the Toffees are in contact with Grealish’s camp, but states that there is “nothing concrete ongoing with Sunderland” and that the player is keeping all of his options open.

“Again, Jack is here until the day that he’s here,” Maresca said. “It’s my duty to try to help him to give us the best and then we’ll see in the next 4-5 days what happens. I speak with Jack almost every day.”
Grealish did not travel with the Manchester City squad to south London. Speaking after the win over the Eagles, Maresca added: "I had a chat with Jack yesterday; again, we’ll see what happens in the next 48, 72 hours and we’ll see."
How Iliman Ndiaye fits into the picture
Grealish’s future may yet be decided by some kind of swap deal. The Athletic reports that Manchester City are interested in signing Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye, with the Merseyside club keen on a deal that would see Grealish head in the opposite direction.
Ndiaye, 26, is one of Everton’s most important players and enjoyed a productive 2025-26 campaign in which he scored six goals and provided three assists across 32 league appearances.

It is a need the club are already moving to address, with Palmeiras’ Allan Elias also reportedly set to arrive before the deadline.
