Liverpool make move for player Newcastle United want to sign

Newcastle United have already lost out on one player to Liverpool this summer. Victor Munoz had looked St James’ Park-bound before a late approach from the Reds changed his destination to Anfield.

Now, it looks like the Magpies have set their sights on another Newcastle United transfer target. Obviously, the Magpies must be hoping that one more deal does not end up getting hijacked after they have laid down the foundations for a potential move.

Cody Gakpo looks to be on his way out of Liverpool this summer. The Reds will look for a replacement, which is where things get worrying for Newcastle United.

Liverpool make move for Newcastle United transfer target

Newcastle United have struggled to find an agreement to sign Matias Fernandez-Pardo. It is believed that the Magpies are willing to shell out €60 million to sign the Belgian forward. But Lille want €70 million for him.

That €10 million gap in valuation means that the saga has dragged on. And that has allowed other teams the chance to swoop in and try to engineer a move of their own.

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool do have an interest in Ismaila Sarr, while they have made contact over Fernandez-Pardo as well.

That ends up complicating things for Newcastle United. This is also a good time to point out that Liverpool are not the only team that seem to be showing late interest in Fernandez-Pardo.

The same rings true for Arsenal as well. The Premier League champions are believed to have made some positive movements regarding a possible move for the Belgian international.

None of this can be a positive for Newcastle United and their hopes of signing him. The club have struggled to convince players to head to St James’ Park to begin with, as there is no European football on offer.

Fernandez-Pardo is a man in demand

At least this goes to show that Newcastle United are on the right path. Their target is also wanted by clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal.

To be fair, Newcastle United’s recruitment this summer appears to have been pretty decent. We saw a glimpse of that in their 2-0 away win over Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

Both Nico Gonzalez and Amar Dedic put in brilliant performances on the day. If the club can make a few more such additions before the transfer window closes, they could be in the running for European spots this season.
