Chelsea have reportedly opened the door to allowing Jamie Gittens to leave on loan, marking a major change in stance as Roma prepare to revive talks for the winger.
The Blues rejected Roma’s initial approach earlier this month and had been expected to keep Gittens in Xabi Alonso’s squad.
That position has now changed.
Italian transfer reporter Alfredo Pedullà reports that Chelsea are prepared to consider a temporary exit, while Gittens is also open to leaving Stamford Bridge.
Roma have made the 22-year-old their first-choice target for the wing and fresh discussions are expected.

Chelsea reverse Jamie Gittens position
The development represents a significant U-turn from Chelsea.
ReadChelsea reported on 22 August that Chelsea rejected Roma’s loan approach for Gittens, with the former Borussia Dortmund attacker then regarded as part of Alonso’s plans.
Roma refused to abandon the pursuit.
Pedullà reported on Friday that the Chelsea “wall” over a Gittens loan remained high, despite continued discussions around a possible deal.
Less than 24 hours later, the situation has apparently shifted.
Chelsea are now willing to consider a loan and, crucially, Gittens is prepared to explore a move away.
Roma make Gittens their priority
Roma’s interest has been persistent throughout the final weeks of the window.
Their original formal loan request was rejected by Chelsea, but Pedullà subsequently reported that further contact was planned as the Serie A club attempted to discover whether the Blues could be persuaded to change their position.
They now appear to have received the encouragement they were waiting for.
Gittens has become Roma’s preferred winger target ahead of other options, with talks expected as the deadline approaches.
There is no agreement yet, and Chelsea’s precise financial demands for a loan remain unclear.
Gittens faces major Chelsea competition
A temporary departure would give Gittens the opportunity to play regularly after an injury-disrupted first season at Stamford Bridge.
Competition has also intensified under Alonso, particularly following Chelsea’s huge investment in Morgan Rogers and the presence of Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto and other attacking options.
Gittens remains a highly-rated asset rather than a player Chelsea are attempting to sell permanently.
But the latest change in position suggests the club are now prepared to prioritise his playing time elsewhere.
