Lamar Jackson’s long-term future with the Baltimore Ravens remains a question heading into the 2027 offseason. The two-time MVP is signed through 2027 on the five-year, $260 million extension he inked in 2023, but the franchise and the self-represented Jackson have failed to agree on a new deal despite multiple rounds of talks this year.
Baltimore restructured his contract in March to manage the cap, a move that pushed Jackson’s 2027 cap hit to roughly $84.5 million and left his situation unresolved going into next spring, when a new extension would need to be in place.
That uncertainty is fueling speculation from NFL insiders about where Jackson could land if Baltimore doesn’t get a deal done, and one name now in the mix is the New York Jets.

He reported, “A potential Tomlin hire could immediately trigger secondary moves across the league, with conversations pointing toward a pursuit of two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson. Jackson enters a high-stakes stretch with his long-term future in Baltimore unresolved amidst ongoing contract negotiations.”
Here, he is just connecting the dots between Mike Tomlin’s future and Jackson’s contract mess. The Jets and Ravens aren’t actually talking about a trade right now.
The Jets have the draft capital to make this trade possible. New York holds three 2027 first-round picks: their own, one from Dallas for Quinnen Williams, and another from Indianapolis for Sauce Gardner. While offering three first-rounders gives Baltimore a massive haul to start a rebuild, it still falls short of full market value. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell recently estimated Jackson’s actual trade worth at closer to four first-round picks.
Jackson’s contract presents a much bigger hurdle than the draft picks. His deal includes a strict no-trade clause and prevents Baltimore from using the franchise tag on him after 2027. Because of these rules, Jackson must personally approve any trade. He has shown no interest in leaving, repeatedly stating that he wants to stay in Baltimore for his entire career.
For now, the Jets-Jackson connection remains speculation built on a chain of “if this, then that” scenarios rather than a live trade discussion. Whether it gains real traction depends on Baltimore’s coaching search resolving in a way that changes Jackson’s calculus, and whether the Ravens ever seriously consider moving on from their franchise quarterback.
Any pursuit would center on whether New York believes Jackson can return to his elite, fully healthy form. Last season, injuries limited the two-time MVP to 13 games. He completed 192 passes for 2,549 yards, throwing 21 touchdowns against seven interceptions. He added 349 rushing yards and two scores on the ground, playing through multiple ailments during a down year for the Baltimore offense.
