Offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich was handling play-calling in the first half. Head coach LaFleur revealed that he approached Love before kickoff and asked him if he wanted to play-call in the second half of the game. He accepted immediately, which was the first time in his career.
LaFleur said in his postgame press conference, “One little nugget I’ll give you guys: Steno called the first half, did an outstanding job, and then we had J-Love call the second half. I don’t know if you guys could tell that or not, but that was pretty cool just to hear his demeanor on the headset and how calm, cool, and collected he was throughout the entire game, especially in those critical moments.”
He added, “It’s not a surprise to me because that’s what we see on the field too. So all in all, just really happy. Whether it’s preseason or regular season, you always play to win the game, and it definitely feels good to beat your little brother.” Love managed to rally back the team from behind to win the game, from the sideline.
Kyle McCord showers praises on Jordan Love
Third-string quarterback Kyle McCord started and played the entire game. He completed 22 of 35 passes for 226 yards and four touchdowns with a passer rating near 119.5. After the game, he praised Love for his play-calling and how it lead to the victory.
He said, “He was great. He told me right before halftime, he said, yeah, they’re going to let me call the plays in the second half. I was like, have you done that before? And he’s like, nah, we’ll see. But, no, he was great. I mean, obviously, he knows the offensive back of his hand and called some really good plays, especially there towards the end. So hats off to him.” The Packers managed to score on all three fourth-quarter offensive possessions for 18 points, which included two late touchdown drives that secured the win.
Jordan Love will now resume his role as the starting quarterback and lead the Packers into next season.
